Danny:

*The next day, I'm out greasing up the plane, thinking about that's to happen that evening. Looking forward to a night out in New York with the guys, Rafe has been worse for ware, the broken nose he'd gotten while trying to flirt with Evelyn was looking a bit better despite still being bandaged. I concentrated on my work hoping to get it done quickly. The guys were chatting about the night ahead, and wolf whistling at each other dramatically making me laugh.* "Oh real attractive, gentleman!" *I called from beneath the wing of my plane, Rafe snorted and kicked back in the chair he sat in.* "Oh ho! What are you going to do then, /Flyboy/." *He teases and the others turn to stare at me.* "F-flyboy?" *Red stammers, glancing from Rafes face to mine.* "Yes, Red, /Flyboy./" *Rafe muses.* "That's his new nickname now. Didn't ya hear?"

Evelyn:

[I had just seen my last patient, which finished up another clinic rotation for me so I closed up for the afternoon and headed home. I was eager to get ready for this evenings events in New York, a night filled with dancing and fun is exactly what we all needed. I couldn't help but smile as my mind drifts back to the night before when I ran into Capt. Walker as I walked along the beach. He was very nice, well mannered and quite charming actually. Getting home I run up the porch steps and laugh lightly as I open the front door hearing music and laughter coming from upstairs.] Alright ladies! [I say stepping into the bedroom I shared with Betty.] Who's ready for a night on the town? [I ask excitedly, laughing as I grabbed my towel and robe to quickly get a shower. I could hear their chatter, talking about dancing and different fellas they had taken a fancy to. Stepping out of the shower I get dressed, thank heavens I had already picked out a nice simple dress to wear. Walking back to my bedroom I started to dry my hair when Barbara came over leaning on the door frame.] Hey Evelyn, I wonder if that fella you mentioned is gonna be there? [She teased, a wide smile on her face.] What fella? [I knit my brows together a touch.] I don't know what your talking about. [I say trying to sound sincere as I finished getting ready.] You know, that guy from the clinic a few weeks ago. [Betty chimed in as she sat forward on the bed.] I don't think he'll be talking to /me/, I broke his nose. [I say, hardly able to contain my smile because I knew exactly /who/ they were talking about.] Not /him/, silly! [Betty says throwing at pillow at me from acrossthe room.] Your "Flyboy". [She says in a sing songy voice before she sighs all dreamy like falling back dramatically on her pillow as we all break in a bit of laughter.] Oh... you mean... Capt. Walker. [I say softly feeling my cheeks turnpink as a smile brightens my face.] As a matter of fact he and his friends will be there but... [I glance at the clock to check the time.] ...I'll have to tell you on the way ladies, we have a train to catch!

Danny:

*Finally after what feels like a millennia, work is over and the whistle is blowing signaling the dismissal of the men for the day. We all clean up our tools and various aircraft equipment parts and head for the barracks, and the showers, then it's time for dressing in dress uniforms and shaving, before we leave for the train station and the guys are talking about beingsent to Pearl Harbor, Rafe, I notice is closed off and quiet. His eyes downcast at the pavement. Usually he's the ringleader of the group, but tonight somethings not right. I can sense it. And I walk ahead of the others beside him.*

Evelyn:

[Betty waited for me as I locked the door when we all left the house. Excited and laughing we hook arms and follow behind the others as we walked down the street to the bus stop. Betty and I listened to the others talking, each girl having a fella she fancied. We only waited a few moments when the bus came and we got on.] Where ya going Miss? [The driver asked with a friendly smile as the five of us got on, sitting close to the front.] Train Station please. [I told with my ownfriendly smile showing. It was there on the bus that the questions started from the girls. I answered all that I could and told them the story of how I met Capt. Walker and his friend Rafe when they came into the clinic. We pulled into the train station and stepped off the bus. We could feel the excitement build as we found our platform and sat down to wait on the train.]

Danny:

*Once on the train. Rafe pulls me aside, not wanting to dampen the mood of the other guys by them over hearing. He tells me what he's been holding back.* I'm being sent to Europe, to the Eagle Squadron, I don't have a choice, I leave tomorrow morning." *I feel a pang of unease, fear too.* "Just... Just promise me Rafe, that you'll come back. For me." *I say softly he nods.* "I will. I always do." *We turn to go back to the other guys, and I soon shrug off the feeling of uncertainty. It was a feeling that by now I was used to. That was military life. Things could always change at the drop of a pin. Soon the train arrives in the station and its time to get off. Soon we will be meeting the girls and the night of fun can begin.*

Evelyn:

[It didn't seem like we were on the train long, the ride into New York made short by our continued conversation. I was the first to step off the train, followed by the other girls. Slowly I move forward and glance around, but I didn't recognizeany of the faces.] C'mon girls... let's get this night started! [I say smiling at the girls with a raised brow as we movetoward the main enterance. I see a group of men in dress uniforms moving into the main corridor ahead of us.] Hey... hey! [Betty says smacking my forearm lightly.] Isn't that? [She asks but doesn't finish her question.] Yes.. it is. [I say softly my eyes on Danny's profile, he was quite handsome in his dress uniform. Taking a few quick steps forward, getting a little closer.] Danny!... [I shout trying to get his attention, hoping he will hear me over the noise in the walkway.]

Danny:

*I turn, having heard someone calling out to me, I look back out towards the train and soon am able to see her form coming towards me.* "Evelyn!" *I call back and then let out a loud shrill whistle at the guy and they freeze and turn to face us all of them falling into step behind Rafe, who, face no longer bandaged, crosses his arms over his chest, but gives a warm smile anyhow as he comes to stand beside me.* "Hey, you look good." *I say by way of a compliment, and then laugh when Betty steps up and asks if we have any friends and I step back a bit and swing one arm towards the other guys.* "Take your pick!"

Evelyn:

[Danny had heard me call out and stopped the other guys to wait on us.] Why thank you, Da... [Was about all I got out before Betty, in all her excitement blurted out her question to Danny. I had to laugh lightly, moving forward out of the way as Betty and the other girls introduced themselves to Danny's friends.] I was saying... thank you, for your compliment. say smiling softly, my eyes look him over coming up to meet his again.] You look very handsome this evening yourself. [I honestly couldn't pull my eyes from his but finally after a few lingering moments I look over to Rafe standing beside us and with a slight nod of my head and a light smile on my lips I speak a friendly greeting also offering him a polite compliment as a sort of truce between us.] Are you ready to do some dancing, Capt. Walker? [I tease, laughing lightly.]

Danny:

"You bet! Its a great little club too, always have a live band playing." *I offer her my arm. As the other girls pair off with each of the guys and we head down the street towards the small bar and dance club. One of the guys had mentioned on the train that he'd booked a hotel for all of us. I shook my head, not sure it was a good idea. But went with it anyways just because I didn't want to seem sour.* "You been keeping yourself busy then.. Can't imagine there's been too much actionsince.... well /you know/." *Was directly referring to the vision tests where Rafe had broken his nose.*

Evelyn:

[Slipping my arm through his when he offers it I listen to him describe the club as we walk down the street. I mentioned how excited we all were and how it would be nice to have a relaxing evening before we shipped out.] Yes, I've been trying to keep busy. Physicals, vision tests and getting things ready for... [I just kind of trail off not wanting to think about hose things this evening. My lips creased with a wide smile and I shook my head.] No.. nothing quite as memorable as the day you and Rafe came to visit me. [I tell him as we reach our destination.]

Danny:

"Mmm.. I see." *Grins boyishly and them goes to hold the door open for each of the 'couples' of our group, I only rejoin them once everyone is inside.* "Now... What would you like to do first. Drinks, food, dance?" *I toss up the nights' activities and then wait to see what she'll choose.* "By the way, the food here is great."

Evelyn:

[I thank Danny when he opens the door. I walk just inside and wait for him as he politely holds the door for everyone else in our group. So thoughtful and shows true character, I smile and think to myself watching him as he enters and rejoins me look around as we move through the crowd rejoining our group. The place was hopping, Danny was right, this was the placeto be.] We should probably grab a bite to eat before we drink, helps to soak up the alcohol. [I grin looking up at Danny.]
